Moving Home Exempted From New English Lockdown

Property agents are allowed to continue to work and house moves are permitted to go ahead

Following the Prime Minister's recent announcement that England will move to a new national lockdown, property agents are allowed to continue to work and house moves are permitted to go ahead.

The recent guidance states that:

"You can still move home. People outside your household or support bubble should not help with moving house unless absolutely necessary. Estate and letting agents and removals firms can continue to work. If you are looking to move, you can go to property viewings. Follow the national guidance on moving home safely, which includes advice on social distancing, letting fresh air in, and wearing a face covering."

This article will help to synthesize points of guidance as it relates to the following groups of people:

- Members of the general public (high and non-high risk)
- Landlords

Members of the General Public - High-Risk

The guidelines for moving house depending on if you are considered vulnerable. In addition to abiding strictly by guidelines already put in place for vulnerable people, there are additional steps you can take:

Only participate in property viewings or showing if you are feeling well and appear symptom free.

Ensure that the property is well ventilated and properly sanitized before and after each showing. If possible, vacate the premises during showings as an extra precaution.

Inform any interested parties that you are vulnerable.

Discuss with your doctor if there are any other precautions you should take on top of the guidance that has already been set forth.

Members of the General Public - Non-High-Risk

Make use of virtual viewings whenever possible.

Any showings or viewings should be by appointment only; no open houses.

If you or any member of your family begins to feel ill or exhibit symptoms, cancel any viewing or showing appointments and observe isolation protocols.

If transporting belongings between residences, only get members of your support bubble to help, if possible.

Observe proper social distancing guidelines and etiquette.

If you are a landlord, there are steps you can take in the midst of the pandemic lockdown to make sure that you and your clients are safe during the pandemic.

Not allow viewings or showings to take place on a property where people are isolating or experiencing coronavirus symptoms.

Ensuring that proper sanitizing and social distancing measures are enforced on the property.
